There appears to be no systematic bias in the MTD size distributions as a function of the dry dust bottle position on the riffle table. Table 2 shows a relative standard uncertainty (at k = 2 level) that is quite small – from 1.7 % to 7.3% for most particle sizes. RM 8631b will provide a good secondary standard material for the fluid power community. The variation found in the new MTD is small and thus the batch bottle-to-bottle variation of MTD is sufficiently homogeneous and fit for purpose.
